Did You Know?
- CCPS and other process safety organizations will provide a week of learning opportunities during the IPSW on Dec. 2鈥6, 2024 (www.aiche.org/ccps/ipsw).
- The intent of this week is to remember the importance of process safety and what happens when process safety is not managed correctly.
- Many companies have experienced significant incidents that have changed their operations and influenced their culture. Maybe your company has had one or more of these events and has implemented specific policies or procedures to prevent similar incidents from occurring.
- Process safety events happen in companies of all sizes and in companies that are not typically considered chemical producers, such as food manufacturers and pulp and paper mills.
- Incident investigations should focus on the system failures that allowed the event to happen. Each incident provides lessons learned that, if properly documented and implemented, could prevent another incident.
What Can You Do?
- Ask your supervisor what events from the IPSW your unit will attend. Many of the presentations will be available after the week鈥檚 events for later viewing.
- Your company may have had a serious process safety incident in the past. Ask your supervisor or a senior employee if they know of any incidents. The lessons from such events shape the operations and culture of a company. Discussing these can reinforce why process safety is imperative to daily operations.
- An internet search can reveal some of the lessons learned from past incidents. Many of them have a report that is available to review.
- Focus your daily safety messages on the incidents that have occurred in your company or neighboring companies.
Join us and learn how to prevent future process safety incidents.
