Anyone reading this article probably knows that she was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2018 for the directed evolution of enzymes. She is only the fifth woman to ever win this prize, and the first American woman to win it.
鈥淭he list of Frances鈥 prior honors and awards is extensive,鈥 write Patrick C. Cirino (Univ. of Houston) and Cynthia Collins (Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute) in their retrospective article 鈥淐ommemorating Frances Arnold.鈥 Among these are elections to the National Academy of Engineering (NAE), the National Academy of Medicine, and the National Academy of Sciences 鈥 she is the first woman to be elected to all three. She won the 2011 NAE Draper Prize and the 2016 Millennium Technology Prize.
