The Future of STEM Scholars Initiative (FOSSI) celebrates its 2024 class of 150 FOSSI scholars! Since its inception, FOSSI has awarded over 740 exceptional high-school seniors $40,000 scholarships ($10,000 per year) to pursue preferred STEM degrees at historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs).

Simone Horton: 2024 FOSSI Scholar Attending North Carolina A&T State University

Simone is from Arlington, TX, and graduated from James Martin High School. She is currently attending North Carolina A & T State University with plans to major in biological engineering. In the future, she wants to be heavily involved in making energy more affordable, take a stance on creating a more sustainable future, and thread it into her career as a biological engineer. Simone is excited to make connections through FOSSI and hear more about how the industry works.

Lei-Yani Monday: 2024 FOSSI Scholar Attending Howard University

Lei-Yani is from Los Angeles, CA, and attended Da Vinci Science High School. She is currently attending Howard University as an environmental science major. Throughout high school, Lei-Yani held many leadership roles and interned at LA Regional Clen Tech Academy, where she met many professionals in the clean energy field. She is passionate about creating innovative solutions for climate change and is grateful for the FOSSI scholarship enabling her to build vital connections and achieve her goals.

Brice Peeler: 2024 FOSSI Scholar Attending North Carolina A&T State University

Brice is from Pittsburgh, PA, and graduated from Penn Hills High School as class valedictorian. He is currently majoring in mechanical engineering at North Carolina A&T State University. Throughout high school, he was involved in many extracurricular activities, including the National Honor Society and Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD). Brice has had a passion for math since childhood, and he developed a strong interest in mechanical engineering and creating machines to assist people after witnessing the debilitating effects of his uncle鈥檚 stroke.

Kameron Scott: 2024 FOSSI Scholar Attending North Carolina A&T State University

Kameron is from Pearland, TX, and is currently attending North Carolina A&T State as a mechanical engineering major. Kameron was very active in his school community, holding leadership roles such as President of the National Society of Black Engineers Jr 鈥 Pearland chapter, and VEX Robotics Team Captain. He also participated in a STEM apprenticeship at Texas Southern University through the Army Educational Outreach Program, which further amplified his desire to pursue science and engineering. Kameron wishes to develop a deep knowledge of engineering principles that will prepare him to make a substantial impact in the world of engineering and achieve personal fulfillment.
