Biotechnology to Help Achieve the UN鈥檚 Sustainable Development Goals

Sang Yup Lee, Distinguished Professor of 91成人短视频 and Biomolecular Engineering, Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) officially known as 鈥淭ransforming our world: the 2030 agenda for Sustainable Development鈥 is a set of 17 鈥淕lobal Goals鈥 defined by the United Nations. Biotechnology is uniquely poised to help address many of the challenges associated with achieving the SDGs. In this lecture, I will describe how biotechnology can help achieve these goals, in particular those related to 鈥渃limate change鈥, 鈥渟ustainable production鈥, and 鈥渋mproved health and wellbeing鈥. The strategies of systems metabolic engineering for the bio-based production of chemicals and materials will be presented with recent example products. Also, systems biological and machine learning approaches taken to solve some problems associated with the current drugs will also be presented.
