Experimental facilities at the Institute for Combustion and Energy Studies (ICES) at the University of Utah provide a complete suite of tools for studying a wide range of combustion and gasification processes, plus the ability to perform fuel characterization, kinetic rate determination, as well as study by-product and aerosol formation and fires. A major focus of our efforts is the coupling of large-scale computer simulations and experimental work in our industrial-style facilities for both commercial and research purposes. Our facilities include two laboratory sites, and range from fundamental facilities for fuel characterization and by-product formation to a wide variety of pilot-scale reactors.

The AIChE tour will focus on the Industrial Combustion and Gasification Research Facility, which is a 30,000 sq. ft. laboratory facility housed in two buildings and located off-campus, a few short miles from the Salt Palace Convention Center. This facility contains pilot-scale test furnaces, with firing rates from 100kW to 1.5 MW, for combustion (air and oxy-firing), gasification and chemical looping, and includes suspension-fired, fluid-bed-fired and grate-fired facilities. Details can be found at .

Refreshments will be served.

*Transportation will be provided to and from the Salt Palace Convention Center. Bus will board from the South Foyer at 6:45 PM.
