Certified Cicerone庐
After 17 years as a pharmaceutical scientist, the brewery鈥檚 Bad Idea Guy explored other career pathways (as a renowned running and triathlon coach and construction worker, to name a couple) before landing in beer. Make no mistake鈥攈e鈥檚 no brewer. He loves air conditioning and talking to people too much to deal with that nonsense. But with degrees in biology and organic chemistry, he鈥檚 well-versed in the science behind the beer. And he鈥檒l talk about it to anyone who will listen. As a Certified Cicerone, he knows a bit about the stuff beyond the science as well.
A little about SRBC:
SRBC came to be thanks to the imagination and culminated efforts of two brothers and their families. They chose the name in honor of the river that separates Georgia and South Carolina, the Westobou, more commonly known today as the Savannah River. SRBC opened its doors in early 2017, and is a 30 barrel craft brewery with the simultaneous fermenting capacity for 13,000 gallons of beer.
SRBC was founded by brothers Steve and Dave Ellison who have many generations of family history rooted in the great state of Georgia. When discussing the idea of opening a brewery several years back, they wanted to find a Georgia city or town with a relatively small, intimate downtown area, one where their efforts and investments to create a brewery would have a lasting positive effect on the city and local community. Before SRBC opened, Augusta had no craft breweries. They purchased an old, neglected warehouse (813 5th Street) and proceeded to transform it into a beautiful, state-of-the art brewery.
