Dr. Adam Smith will share about the design of low-cost spectrometers to monitor water quality with citizen scientists, which harness the concept of collective intelligence in biological systems, and his work with biomimetic membranes, used to study the molecular mechanisms of cell signaling and to develop novel biosensors.

The University of Akron is an internationally recognized leader in the rapidly growing field of biomimicry. Their Biomimicry Research and Innovation Center (BRIC) is dedicated to connecting scientists, engineers, designers and businesspeople to catalyze biomimicry-based innovation.
