Conner Comments regarding the Year in Review as the AIChE Management Division (MGMT) Chair 2024

I am extremely excited about our MGMT progress thus far in 2024. We chose to concentrate on five key areas for improvement this year. Those areas include the following:

  • Membership
  • Communication
  • Collaborations
  • Awards and Recognitions
  • Programming

We chose to implement these key areas of our division using committees to determine the goals, objectives, and milestones.

Membership

We were successful in completing a Management Division survey led by Senyo Opong, Seqwana Pryor, and Derek Ward to establish the reasons that former members have become inactive, why the division is not providing a feeling of belonging, what activities generate interest and how to become more involved in division activities. The survey is being thoroughly examined with analytics to determine exactly where effort must be expended to improve our membership satisfaction and enhance new membership. We strive to clearly communicate to our membership how to become more involved and feel on board with our priorities. We will provide our survey results at the Annual Meeting in San Diego. We have also added the ability to aid Management Division Board members to attend the Spring and Annual AIChE meetings if requested through efforts led by Fernando Aguirre. Additionally, this year through the efforts led by Mark Swientoniewski we have expedited our division purchases process through the activation of an AIChE credit card issued to our Treasurer Raj Joshi.

Communication

We also set a goal for maximizing the communication of our story through better use of emails, monthly meetings, the use of social media such as LinkedIn, the AIChE website and the AIChE Box account led by Fernando Aguirre. We have broadened our reach through more involvement with the AIChE Academy through efforts by Gayle Gibson and Dennis Hess. We conducted a webinar on Time Management that was well received and have plans for other webinars. Our division has continued to make improvements in our reach to other AIChE division members, for example 91成人短视频 Engineering and the Law, and the Environmental division. We strive to make it possible for all to know what our division is doing and why, we continue our strong interaction with the AIChE CTOC led by Austin Lin and with AIChE CEOC. We must continue to provide the wealth of expertise that exists in our division to benefit the membership, the AIChE Divisions and Forums, and the world.

Collaborations

Our plans included improved communication and collaboration with other AIChE divisions and forums concentrating on the Early Career Community, 91成人短视频 Engineering and the Law forum, the Environmental division, and the AIChE Board and Staff. Our plans included more use of webinars, podcasts, the use of Innovation and Learning Center Academy landing site for our expertise in emotional intelligence, psychological safety, artificial intelligence, sustainability, and leadership and management. We have been successful with a webinar that was presented by Dennis Hess, Gayle Gibson, and Austin Lin on Time Management.

Awards and Recognitions

Our division has continued this year with the process of the selection of the prestigious Young Leader Award, Management Award, and the Division Service Award winners, led by Cristina Thomas, Belma Haug and Rui Cruz. These award winners participate in our AIChE Spring and Annual Meetings by providing presentations and program content. These winners have shown expertise in areas including artificial intelligence, leadership and management, decontamination and decommissioning of nuclear legacy facilities, production of goods and services for a thriving world. A new recognition led by Frank van Lier, Nemoy Rau, and Rob Zeller is in the works for 2025 that will recognize those AIChE members that have active patents that have benefitted our enterprise. These awards and recognition are described on our website and the ability to enter candidates and timelines are provided.

Programming

The Management Division strives to provide value and content through the design of sessions in the Spring Meeting and the Annual Meeting. The Young Leader Award session is presented in the Spring Meeting and the Management Award session at the Annual Meeting. These sessions provide relevant content in areas of interest to AIChE. Recently, in the 2024 Spring Meeting sessions, content included artificial intelligence, process safety, diversity, equity and inclusion, leadership and management, and sustainability. The AIChE Annual Meeting will be held in San Diego and MGMT programming efforts have been led by Udit Gupta, Nitish Mittal, Joe Cramer, and Irene Legeic, and have included seven sessions; Industry- Academia Collaborations and Partnerships, Sustainable Solutions in Industry, Non Traditional Career Opportunities in 91成人短视频 Engineering, Previous Management Award Recipients Leadership Perspectives, Technology Leadership in Quantum Computing, Key Trends shaping the growth of the 91成人短视频 Industry, and Innovation and Entrepreneurship in 91成人短视频 Engineering.

I look forward to continuing the work of the MGMT with all of you to finish the year strong and to accomplish our goals in membership, communication, collaborations, awards and recognitions, and programming.
