Happy New year, 2024, to one and all!

I hope that everyone had a great close to 2023 with their near and dear ones, and is looking into 2024 recharged with new hope and enthusiasm!
As the 2023 MGMT Division Chair, I take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you from AIChE MGMT family for your support, participation and energy throughout the year. It has been my pleasure to serve the Division with you all. This is a good time to reflect on our collective accomplishments, learnings and envision the coming years.
In 2023, MGMT had a lot of emphasis on inter-divisional collaborations within AIChE. We made headway on our connections with the Institute of Learning and Innovation (ILI) as well as the Young Professionals Committee (YPC). The MGMT-ILI joint efforts have led to increased emphasis on initiatives such as project-based mentoring, project/time management and coaching. ILI Academy continued to seek online content and mentors from the expertise that we have within the Division. MGMT successfully collaborated with YPC on multiple joint panel discussions, sessions and established new programming/networking opportunities for 2024 Spring/Annual meetings. The MGMT Board has approved free 2024 membership for AIChE 35 Under 35 Award winners. This is to encourage these budding Early Career Professionals and Leaders. This will provide them a platform to pursue ideas side-by-side with experienced professionals.
Taking collaborations a step further, MGMT has spearheaded panel discussions and projects to facilitate industry-academia partnerships. This is just one example of expansion of the Division鈥檚 vision towards utilizing Modern Management Practices to contribute to resolution of Global challenges. In 2023, we have experienced multiple transitions in relation to impacts from Covid. We have been experiencing changes in macro-economic headwinds, the AI revolution and continued strong emphasis on Sustainability, to name a few. MGMT has already been engaged in leading sustainable practices along with the Environmental Division. Heading into 2024 we plan to innovate with ILI/YPC and project-based mentoring in keeping with these global trends. The Division continues emphasis on Career Development by providing a safe space for YPs to work on global challenges in small groups while learning management, teamwork, communication, soft skills first-hand.
We develop, share and document new content through Division webinars, strong programming presence at the Spring, Annual and Student conferences, the division newsletters, website and LinkedIn groups. We will continue to channel distribution of learning material along with ILI and further engage the student community. MGMT has a strong emphasis on IDEAL principles and conducted a webinar on the topic in 2023 to ensure each and every individual has equitable opportunities to grow and contribute to their full potential.
We, at MGMT, believe in leading by example: we were one of the first few AIChE divisions to complete a revision of our Bylaws in 2023. In 2024, we plan to create a Division Operating Manual. Given the strong financial and membership health of the Division, we are seeking passionate members with new ideas. As the saying goes, 鈥淟uck is what happens when preparation meets Opportunity鈥. I consider myself just one of the lucky members of MGMT and encourage all the hungry hearts reading this to join in the fun and goodness in 2024.
Thank you and looking forward to a fascinating 2024,
Aditi Khadilkar
2023 MGMT Chair
