
Christopher S. Buehler, PhD, P.E., is a Senior Managing Engineer in the Thermal Sciences practice at Exponent, Inc. (420 Lexington Ave., Suite 1740, New York, NY 10170; Email: buehler@exponent.com). He specializes in the application of chemical engineering principles to the scientific investigation and analyses of problems involving the production, processing, storage, transport, and use of both hazardous and non-hazardous materials such as chemicals, flammable and toxic gases, petroleum, and various wastes. His work includes investigation of fires, explosions, and process upsets; characterization of atmospheric releases and spills; evaluation of the stability, compatibility, and hazard potential of chemicals and chemical mixtures; assessment of facility design, operation, and mechanical integrity practices with respect to their safety, health, and environmental impacts; and process hazard analyses (PHAs). He holds a PhD and master鈥檚 degree from Purdue Univ. and a bachelor鈥檚 degree from Villanova Univ., all in chemical engineering. He is also a licensed professional engineer, a principal member of NFPA technical committees on Gas Process Safety and Confined Space Safe Work Practices, and past Director and Secretary of AIChE鈥檚 Fuels and Petrochemicals Division.
